NFRC Door Labeling Requirements are Changing in 2026 – Are You Ready?
Come January 1, 2026, NFRC product certification program participants who have been labeling swinging doors with the NFRC Temporary Door Matrix label will no longer have this option to use. The General NFRC Temporary label (per Figure A-1 of the NFRC 700) is to be used instead, which is the single product label.
This option was removed from the NFRC 700 Product Certification Program (PCP) document in
August of last year when the 700 document was updated subsequent to the NFRC 2024 Spring membership meeting.

Implementation Timeline:
There is a phased-in implementation period for the door labeling change, to allow current NFRC program participants time to modify their labeling processes.
Here are the key points regarding this transition (for additional information, see NFRC Program Bulletin 2024-09):
NFRC Participants Using the Temporary Door Matrix Label
Are required to stop using the door matrix label by January 1, 2026.
Are allowed to begin using the General Temporary Label as specified in Figure A-1 of the NFRC 700 before January 1, 2026.
New Licensees
Any new NFRC program participants joining the PCP after the publication and implementation date of the NFRC 700-2024, which was August 12, 2024, must use the General Temporary Label as specified in Figure A-1 of the NFRC 700.
Background on the Reason for the Change
A few years back, issues regarding proper and accurate labeling with the NFRC door matrix label were brought to the attention of NFRC and in 2023, the NFRC Door Task Group was tasked with putting a working group together to revisit the door matrix label and look for ways to improve consistency, formatting, traceability, and usability for both the manufacturer and the end users (consumers and code officials) to ensure accuracy and credibility.
Resolution and WMA Involvement
Jessica Ferris, WMA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs & Standards Development, participates in
NFRC’s Door Task Group and was involved in the working group tasked with addressing this labeling issue which ultimately led to the recommendation to the task group that the door matrix label be removed as a labeling option for swinging doors, that a reasonable timeline be put in place for the implementation of this change, and that NFRC explore ways to provide some sort of labeling tool resource for smaller door shops that don’t necessarily have the technology/software in place to label doors with the single product temporary label.
At the NFRC 2024 Spring membership meeting a ballot to remove the door matrix label from the NFRC 700 document was approved, and NFRC established the implementation timeline referenced above.
NFRC Labeling Tool Available
NFRC has also recently incorporated into the NFRC Certified Products Directory (CPD) a labeling functionality that allows participant users to select their individual product options for labeling and have a temporary label generated in a PDF file for each option selected which is emailed to the user.
Users simply go to the specific product line detail page, and select the options and click the
“Create Label” button. The user that is logged in will receive an email with a link to a ZIP file
containing all the labels.
For additional guidance or questions regarding this functionality, please reach out to NFRC staff at support@nfrc.org.
